About the Instructor William J. Barclay Jr.

William J. Barclay Jr. earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from San Jose State University in 1981. William studied Jazz Guitar, Classical Guitar, Music Theory, Composition, and Harmony. He has played guitar since he was 7. In addition William has taught and played in several Rock & Jazz Big Bands in the San Francisco Bay area. His bands have performed at over four hundred formal and corporate performances as well as entertaining celebrities such as Michelle Lee, Ken Berry, and Theodore Bikel. Recipient of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Musician Award at Leland High School in 1975. In 1973 William performed with Jazz Vibraphonist great Cal Tjader. In the 1970’s he played Bass Guitar for San Jose Civic Light Opera’s touring entertainers. He studied with Jazz guitar notables Steve Erquiaga, Bud Dimock and Jim Nichols. William welcomes students of all abilities.

Without disparaging other teachers or methods there are good choices pertaining to Guitar & Bass Guitar instruction. There is software, on line instruction, group lessons, and TV infomercials. Having a live instructor one on one present to coach and interact with you will ensure you are learning correctly. This is not only very important but is a preferred method of instruction. Quality instruction will also provide answers to questions you may have during the learning process. One can learn to play the guitar or play the guitar in a musical manner making the instrument you.
